Printer, Photocopier Combined

CANON, the company that makes the engine in the majority of laser printers, has announced the first combined laser printer and digital photocopier.
The first model, the GP55, is aimed squarely at the corporate network market and costs upwards of $29,450. But Canon says it already has prototypes of a version for the SOHO (small office, home office) market.
Canon also promised to add fax and scanner capabilities in a future model due in '95, but advised that it would not be possible to offer those features as an upgrade to this first model.
Among several neat features is the ability to convert colour, say in a colour-coded pie chart, to black and white shading on copies, so that meaning is not lost in the copying process. You can also highlight confidential information on an original document so that it is not produced on the copies.
The printer is high speed at 30 pages a minute, but not high volume, with a recommended duty cycle of 20,000 pages a month.
